Bottlenose Dolphins 4/15/25

It’s tax day, so these dolphins decided to do a flyby to bring cheer. And I do mean a flyby - they had the afterburners engaged and were moving very fast. As you can see in Photo2, not even a fish could slow these guys down. Chris first spotted them off Rockaway Beach, but lost sight of them shortly after his initial sighting. I decided to head to the pier in case they were headed north. As luck would have it, they were headed north and they arrived at the pier at the same time I did. They blew right past the pier and kept heading north, so I decided to try and catch them at Mussel Rock. Chris and I arrived at Mussel Rock at almost the same time, and it wasn’t too long before the dolphins showed up. But again, they just blew right past us and kept heading north. Here are a few of the shots I managed to get. I recognize two of them as dolphins I’ve photographed in the past, but I don’t remember their names - I’ll have to go back through my photos and emails from The Marine Mammal Center to get their names.
