Lonely little whale 8/31/22

This little humpback was hanging around the pier area for quite a while. I first saw her at 9:30am, grabbed my camera and headed to the pier. She continued to hang around, doing laps from the south end of Sharp Park beach up to about the mobile home park and back. I finally left the pier at 1:30pm and she was still hanging around. She was doing quite a bit of lunge feeding. I managed to get some decent shots, but I really should have gotten more and better shots. I was really off my game today.

Someone I was talking to on the pier said that based on other sightings, they think this might be the calf of the whale that died here in July. I'm not sure if there are enough markings in my photos to uniquely identify the whale, but I'll submit to happywhale and see if they can.

UPDATE: The Marine Mammal Center got back to me and said that this whale is older than Fran's calf and is not a match.

Note that since the photos were taken at various times during the day, sometimes it was sunny and sometimes it was cloudy, so it might be a little jarring going from photo-to-photo.
