Rodent Roundup 2/19/25
As I was walking along the levee, I saw the resident Great Egret hunting, rather successfully, for rodents. I got a few photos of him, but none that really grabbed my attention, so I continued along. As I got to Mori Point, I saw a Red-tailed Hawk circling and riding the wind. It looked like he might be hunting, so I settled in to watch. He made a few dives, but pulled up at the last minute and went back to hunting. The sun was starting to drop behind the point, and I was about to pack it up and head back, somewhat bummed that the only shots I got were high, soaring shots. Then he dropped out of the sky like a rock straight into the brush. I got pointed in that direction as quickly as I could and he burst back up with something in tow. Well done Mr Red-tail - thank you for making my evening. The rodent (possibly a Vole?) probably wasn’t quite as happy, but hey - we all gotta eat.
