Coast Guard Ocean Rescue Training 3/7/25
The Coast Guard was out at Ocean Beach, San Francisco doing ocean rescue training. I was a bit south, at Fort Funston, looking for whales and dolphins when I heard the helicopters. Watching the Coast Guard work is always a pleasure, and there was some nice surf.
This was the last of the rescues they did during this session and I was intrigued to see that for this one the rescue diver never unclipped from the line. In the previous rescues, and every other one I've seen, they drop the diver in the water, the diver secures the victim, then clips back into the line to be pulled up.
I wasn't planning on shooting video, and only had my monopod. Long distance, 800mm lens, monopod, and wind are not a good combination for video. I was taking the wind broadside which was pushing the big lens around a lot. I did my best under the circumstances.
I took a pile of photos too, but that’s going to take a little while to sort through. Eventually I should have a post with a few of the photos.
