Open Wide 8/20/24.
I’ve been wanting to get some good open-mouth shots for a while, and I finally got some. These were taken from the pier. The second photo is a “happy accident”. I missed slightly on the shot, though as someone on facebook pointed out, so did the whale. :-) And actually, that’s largely why I missed too. I saw the anchovies come flying out of the water and I expected a whale to be coming up directly underneath, so I started shooting, but the whale came up off to the side. The “happy accident” part is that with the whale off to the side, you can really see all of the anchovies trying to flee.
Sorry for the whale-heavy spate of postings. I like to get as many shots of them as I can before they disappear. I’ll have some non-whale photos coming soon.
